Introduction
NGeK is an Ethno-music-religious
Band.
NGek Was founded in Depok Indonesia on May 20th 1995, on
the very first performance at National Training of Campus
journalism. Founded by 13 student of Faculty of Letters
University of Indonesia, after saw the extraordinary
performance of Emha Ainun Nadjib and Gamelan Kyai Kanjeng
at Taman Ismail Marzuki Jakarta on August, 24th 1994.
At First, NGeK meant Nasyid Gank Kober (Songs from Kober
Alley), the place we used to gather. But now, the meaning
is intepretably up to everybody. It means the sadness
voices of our cultural performances, means the sound of
trapped rat, etc.
The Mission :
We all came from Faculty of Letters
which taught us much about the enrichechment of
Indonesian cultures and traditions. We learned about
folklore, ethnical and oral tradition--and these days
only few people cares about those things. And We all came
from Religious and Spiritual Environment, and had spirits
to spread Islamic though by cultural perspective, just
like Wali Songo ( The Nine Saints) did in java about
16-18th centuries.
So, we found NGeK as a band fulfilled with traditions and
ethnical colour mixed with religious spirit.

The Albums :
Our First Album released as Indie Label Album. The Tittle
is "Wajib Ngaji" ("learning is a
must!").
Contains 9 songs : Ya Rasulallah,
wajib ngaji, lir-ilir, sifat 20, Rasul Pilihan
(al-musthafa), Tombo Ati (tadzkiya al-anfus), Barudaty,
Rindu (missing) Ramadhan, and Islam is Back ( a rap
song).The Next Album is on preparation. It will contain
Shalawats from many version, Taklelalegong, Lebaran,
innaneira (idhul fitri), Kampung
Halaman (homeland), Rabbana Rabbana (the pray of Adam as)
, Syair Abu Nawas, Selayang Pandang, I Still Haven't
Found What I'm Looking For, Cublak Suweng (Jazz Version),
and Pamit (farewell)
